Katherine

'Okay, love. I'm off. The boys and I will be back tomorrow,' James kissed Katherine on her cheek the same way he did to his daughters.

'Yeah, bye,' Katherine was clutching her coffee in the kitchen, looking out the window. She didn't even turn to face James as he walked out the door. Her mind was on other things.

It was the weekend. Thank God it was finally the weekend. It seemed to be the most fulfilling week ever. Katherine was used to the first week of term being so hectic. It was always hard to get back into the swing of things, organising the never-ending list of school events. This was usually the highlight of her week, something she looked forward to all summer. But this week had been remarkably different. A murder. What had happened to that poor girl? Katherine couldn't get the thought out of her mind.

There was a murderer in the area. But who? Who would want to kill a young, innocent girl? Katherine took another sip of her coffee. She shuddered at the thought. But it equally somewhat intrigued her, too. Was it a man? A girl? Did they know her? Or was it a stranger? How would it feel to take a life?

Katherine turned her thoughts back to James. Katherine yawned. Thank God James had gone hunting this weekend. She needed peace and quiet instead of her husband breathing down her neck. Katherine always had to conform to a certain way when he was around, which was exhausting. Ellie had gone to dance and was then going to a sleepover at her friend Isabelle's house. So, it was just her and Sophie. Maybe they could cuddle in and watch a movie today after Katherine had cleaned the house. Drama free.

Katherine's mobile suddenly rang. It was Alison.

'Hello,' Katherine answered.

'Hey Girl, what are you doing?' Alison beamed.

'Nothing much. Just about to get on with the housework,' Katherine replied.

'Are you kidding? Bugger that. Fancy going for a run with me instead?' Alison asked.

Katherine paused. She had to clean the house, so it was back to its spotless state. But then again, James wasn't here to see it. Today, she was giving herself the day off. Although she still had to watch Sophie.

'I have Sophie. James is out hunting for the weekend with the boys,' Katherine replied.

'Don't worry, I'll bring Jean over with me. She is watching Amy anyway,' Alison asserted. Jean was Alison's trusty nanny. Although Alison was at home, Jean would watch Amy and do all the housework. Then Alison would get involved whenever she felt like it.

'Oh, okay. Yeah, go on then.' A run was just what Katherine needed to clear her head.

'Okay, we'll be round in the next hour or so,' Alison clicked off the phone.

'Hey, guess who's coming over?' She turned to face Sophie, who was sitting watching TV in the living room.

'Who, Mummy?' Sophie anticipated, turning around to face Katherine.

'Auntie Alison and Amy,' Katherine beamed.

'Yay!' Sophie exclaimed, jumping up and down on the sofa.

'Yes, they'll be here soon,' Katherine replied.
